Strawberries!!!

We have picked over 100 pounds of strawberries this season and it is still very early in June! The recent rainy weather has done a number on the crop production in several ways. 2.5 inches recently meant not only that we could not get into the patch to pick but also that fruit got battered down and in some cases sat in damp locations. The tips of some gorgeous fruit started to rot which just breaks my heart!
Anyway, the crop is still considered “bumper” status to us since we now realize we have to buy an additional freezer to accommodate all the fruit!

I’m processing (freezing) as fast as I can but we are also distracted with other outdoor projects this time of year! All the rain means the grass needs to be mowed more regularly and often. We are also still struggling to get the spring planting done! So much to do, so little time!

Hostages!

Breaking News!
This just in from the Seven Oaks Farm….
The Sauerhoffs are being held hostage by a wild gang of ever growing, militant, Eggplants. More rebels are hiding in the fields, ready to come to the aid of their brethren.
Efforts to control the group will be employed in an attempt to avoid the newly identified Eggplant Fatigue Syndrome.

Meanwhile, the White House, under pressure from the Eggplant Embassy, is investigating questions of improper treatment such as water-blanching, egg-dipping and bread crumbing, following by suffocating and freezing. Photo evidence, currently being analyzed by insiders, will be available soon.
Battle weary troops are on en route.  Look for updates in the coming days.
